Dear Reader,

Aaronson

Aaronson

Give Miami Day is on Thursday, November 20, and we need your support.

For five years, the Florida Center for Investigative Reporting has received its principal support from foundations. We need to increase our support among individual contributors like you to keep foundations backing our work.

We’re telling the stories that aren’t being told in Florida about criminal justice, education, immigration and politics, among other topics, and you can read that journalism here. And we’re winning awards too. A lot of them.

Now we need your help so we can expand our journalism. Among our goals for 2015:

  • Expand our data journalism to help Floridians better understand our state through careful analysis of state and federal data
  • Increase the number of investigations we produce each year and deepen our reporting footprint in Tallahassee
  • Launch a series of live events throughout the state that will focus on the important issues affecting Florida
  • Create an online, confidential file drop that will allow whistleblowers throughout Florida to leak documents to FCIR using a system that will shield their identity, even from us

For 24 hours starting midnight on Thursday, November 20, the Miami Foundation will match donations to FCIR of $25 or more up to $10,000. For your contribution to qualify as part of Give Miami Day, you must donate between 12 a.m. and 11:59 p.m. on November 20.

Give-Miami-Day-participantI urge you to give a tax-deductible donation to FCIR on November 20 as part of Give Miami Day. You can read more about Give Miami Day, and I hope you also take some time to review our recent stories.

Sincerely,

Trevor Aaronson
Executive Director
