Ashley Lopez: The state of Florida will finally begin to consider implementation of a federal law that has been in place since 2010 -- the Affordable Care Act.
Ashley Lopez: Now that this year's presidential election is mostly behind us, all eyes (and political money) will slowly shift toward Florida Gov. Rick Scott's reelection bid in 2014.
Ashley Lopez: In a little-reported announcement on Nov. 9, the Supreme Court of the United States announced it would take a second look at the Voting Rights Act of 1965, a law aimed at protecting the voting rights of minorities.
Ashley Lopez: Outside spending groups such as Super PACs spent millions during this election, particularly in swing states including Florida. However, the Sunlight Foundation found that many of the groups helping out Republican candidates received abysmal returns on investment.
Ashley Lopez: The presidential election may have been called hours after polls closed in Florida, but the Sunshine State's results weren't called until days later, thanks to a series of problems in South Florida.
