FCIR Hands Off Its Mission to Inside Climate News

The Florida Center for Investigative Reporting has ceased operations and was absorbed by Inside Climate News, a Pulitzer Prize-winning nonprofit news organization that covers climate change and environmental justice in the United States and around the world.

FCIR’s resources have funded a new initiative at Inside Climate News dedicated to covering climate change and environmental justice in Florida.

We started FCIR in 2010 as a nonprofit news organization whose mission was to tell the stories in Florida that weren’t being told.

In the last decade, we’ve won dozens of state and national awards and have had an impact on communities statewide through our reporting and documentaries. We are proud of what we’ve accomplished while operating on very modest budgets.

But scale and capacity are important components to produce impactful journalism. For that reason, we believe that passing the baton to a larger nonprofit news organization is in the best interest of Florida journalism and FCIR’s donors.

We also believe that climate change is the most important story affecting Floridians, and will be for decades to come. FCIR’s legacy will be increased coverage of this critically important topic in the Sunshine State.

We hope that you will continue to support nonprofit journalism in Florida by joining us in supporting Inside Climate News. Your contribution to Inside Climate News will be earmarked to support its coverage of climate change and environmental justice in Florida, and robust fundraising around this initiative is critical for its continuation.
