Thank You for Supporting FCIR During News Match 2017

More than 180 individuals from Pensacola to Miami, and about two dozen from out of the state, stepped up to support FCIR’s work during News Match 2017. The median donation was $50, demonstrating the power of small donors.

Dear FCIR Supporters,

Thanks to your generosity and commitment to public service journalism during News Match 2017, the Florida Center for Investigative Reporting raised nearly $50,000 from individual donors, including more than $21,000 that counted toward a dollar-for-dollar match from the Knight Foundation, Democracy Fund and the MacArthur Foundation.

The distribution of individual donors in Florida during News Match 2017.

More than 180 individuals from throughout Florida — as well as from New York, Pennsylvania, Ohio, Illinois, North Carolina, Georgia, Tennessee, Arizona, California, Hawaii and Canada — stepped up to support FCIR’s work. Most of the donations were for $50 or less, demonstrating the power of small donors.

There are not enough ways to thank you.

We can’t do public accountability journalism without you. While FCIR has always been funded by foundations and individual giving, we’ve seen institutional support decline in recent years, as have nonprofit journalism organizations around the nation.

That means individual donors like you have become increasingly critical to funding FCIR’s journalism. Thanks again to your generosity, we can continue to make a difference in Florida in 2018. This year, FCIR will focus on a single topic — climate change and how Florida government officials, residents and businesses are responding to the threat.

We will have more to report as we organize our climate change coverage and encourage you to share your thoughts.

We always want to hear from our supporters about what type of journalism you’d like to see us take on or how you think FCIR can better serve Florida. As always, you can email me directly.

Thank you again for your support.

Sincerely,

Trevor Aaronson
Executive Director
