The Florida Center for Investigative Reporting received five journalism prizes Friday from the Florida Society of News Editors. Three of the awards in the statewide competition were for first place.

The series “13th Grade,” a collaboration involving John O’Connor and Sarah Gonzalez of StateImpact Florida and Mc Nelly Torres and Lynn Waddell of FCIR, won first place in investigative reporting.

Tracey Eaton’s story about Cuban spy Juan Pablo Roque took first in Spanish-language feature reporting.

Amy Green’s reporting on Florida’s sugar industry and price supports finished in first place for business reporting.

Finally, FCIR received second- and third-place honors for multimedia presentation for “13th Grade” and “A Deadly Package,” respectively.
