In the map below, the Florida Center for Investigative Reporting compiled data from the Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission of boating accidents reported in 2011, the most recent year for which data is available.

The data includes the date and time the accident was reported, case number, location, number of injuries and fatalities reported, number of vessels involved in the accident, total damages in dollars, and the cause of the accident. To access information about an individual accident, select the red, yellow or blue dot on the map. Red indicates a fatality, yellow an injury, and blue no injuries or fatalities reported.

In Florida waters in 2011, 67 people were killed and 431 injured in 742 boating accidents. Boating accidents in the state’s waterways caused more than $27 million in damages that year.
