The Florida Center for Investigative Reporting and WLRN Miami Herald News together won two Regional Edward R. Murrow Awards from the Radio Television Digital News Association for collaborative stories produced in 2011.

FCIR Contributing Editor Tristram Korten won the award for Audio Feature Reporting for “Fugitives on the Run, Bondsmen on the Hunt,” which reported how Florida’s state attorney’s offices are not extraditing absconders due to budget cuts, creating an implicit public policy that means those who skip bond in Florida will not be followed. Korten’s story also won two National Headliner Awards, including Best of Show, and is a finalist for the Florida Associated Press Broadcasters Contest.

Reporter Jacob Kushner, whose radio report “Lost Between Two Nations” was included in WLRN’s series of stories about the first anniversary of Haiti’s devastating earthquake, shared in the Audio News Series award.
