The Florida Center for Investigative Reporting has received two grants that will support journalism to be published in 2011.

The Nation Institute Investigative Fund awarded FCIR and freelance reporter Jacob Kushner $3,500 for a multimedia project examining deportations to Haiti. Kushner, a former reporter for the nonprofit Wisconsin Center for Investigative Journalism, has been reporting in Haiti since July 2010 for the Associated Press, Newsweek and Global Post, among other news organizations. Kushner’s FCIR project will involve reporting in Haiti and Florida.

The Walter and Adi Blum Foundation gave a $1,000 grant to FCIR to support general operations. Based in Palm Beach Gardens and established by the late Adi Blum, the Blum Foundation supports agencies and organizations serving the Palm Beach County area.

FCIR, which relies on support from foundations and donations from readers, complies with a strict fundraising policy that requires full financial transparency and prevents improper donor influence.
