The Florida Center for Investigative Reporting will help lead journalism training sessions in Puerto Rico May 20 and 21 as part of a workshop hosted by El Centro de Periodismo Investigativo de Puerto Rico at Interamerican University in Saturce, P.R.

FCIR Associate Director Mc Nelly Torres is among the scheduled speakers during the two-day workshop at the university’s law school. Other speakers include Omaya Sosa Pascual and Oscar Serrano, the co-founders of CPIPR, which is based at the university.

Funded by a $10,000 grant from the Fundación Angel Ramos, the largest foundation in Puerto Rico, the workshop will provide training to 15 journalists free of charge.

Attendees will learn investigative reporting techniques, including how to conduct an effective interview, incorporate statistical analyses into reporting, and use available legal resources to obtain records and information. Trainers will conduct all sessions in Spanish.

Journalists attending the workshop will also receive a one-year membership to Investigative Reporters and Editors.
