The Florida Center for Investigative Reporting is a finalist for five Green Eyeshade Awards in the online division for journalism published in 2011.

The Society of Professional Journalists’ Green Eyeshade Awards contest is the nation’s oldest and largest regional journalism competition, with news organizations from Alabama, Arkansas, Florida, Georgia, Kentucky, Louisiana, Mississippi, North Carolina, South Carolina, Tennessee and West Virginia eligible to enter.

FCIR’s report about deportations to Haiti, “U.S. Deportees to Haiti, Jailed Without Cause, Face Severe Health Risks,” is a finalist for three categories — public service, investigative reporting and digital media presentation.

The other finalists are “School of Hard Financial Knocks” for investigative reporting and “Florida and Foreclosures” for digital media presentation.
