WGCU-FCIR Collaboration Wins Regional Edward R. Murrow Award

Florida’s Shrinking Workforce,” a collaboration between FCIR and WGCU in Fort Myers, won a 2015 regional Edward R. Murrow Award for news series. It will now advance to the national competition, which recognizes the best journalism in public radio.

The three-part series, which was reported by Ashley Lopez, documented how cuts in the state workforce had dramatically affected Florida’s ability to provides services, including at such crucial departments as Children and Families and Environmental Protection.

This is FCIR’s second regional Edward R. Murrow Award. In 2012, Tristram Korten, now FCIR’s editor, won for audio feature reporting for “Fugitives on the Run, Bondsmen on the Hunt,” a collaboration with WLRN Miami Herald News.
