For the fifth consecutive year, the Florida Center for Investigative Reporting has received a grant from the Ethics and Excellence in Journalism Foundation.

The $75,000 grant comes in two parts. An initial $50,000 was received this month. The remainder is in the form of a matching grant. If FCIR is successful in raising $25,000 within the year, it will qualify for a matching $25,000 from EEJF.

“We again thank the Ethics and Excellence in Journalism Foundation for its financial support and commitment to FCIR’s in-depth, public service reporting mission,” said Sharon Rosenhause, FCIR board president. “This is a good time to remind readers that their tax-exempt donations also make our accountability journalism possible”

EEJF is an Oklahoma City-based foundation that supports projects designed to improve the quality and ethical standards of journalism, primarily in the areas of investigative reporting, youth education, professional development and special opportunities. The grant to FCIR will support general operations for the nonprofit, bilingual, statewide investigative journalism organization focused on government accountability reporting in Florida.

Since its founding in 2010, FCIR has won more than two dozen national and regional awards, including a National Headliner Award, Regional Edward R. Murrow Awards, Society of Professional Journalists Green Eyeshade Awards and honors from the Florida Society of News Editors. FCIR partners with established, emerging and ethnic media to publish and broadcast its stories. Partners have included The Miami Herald and El Nuevo Herald, El Sentinel in Fort Lauderdale,The Florida Times Union in Jacksonville, The Ledger in Lakeland, The Gainesville Sun, The Ocala Star-Banner, the NPR affiliate stations in Miami and Tampa, NBC6 in Miami, New America Media, and the Center for Public Integrity, among others.

There is no better time to contribute to FCIR. Your tax-deductible donation will keep investigative journalism thriving in Florida and help FCIR attain its matching grant goals.  Please consider contributing today.
